PRESS RELEASE: Annual Livestock Remuneration Fee for the Deadstock Program

The national program for the collection and management of dead animals (EPSYD) was established by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and is implemented by the Regions of the Country, to ensure public health, animal health and environmental protection.

The program includes the collection, transport and incineration/processing of dead farmed cattle, goats, sheep and pigs, in accordance with the requirements of current European and national legislation and is mainly financed by state funds, in order to assist livestock farmers in their compliance with the legislative requirement for proper management of dead animals.

In addition to state funding, the breeder contributes to the implementation of this obligation by paying a very low annual fee per livestock farm, the amount of which is determined according to the type and number of live animals of each farm. The data is drawn from the Integrated Veterinary Information System - Marking and Registration of Livestock (OPSK).

The annual remunerative fee amounts to:

  • 1,5 € for each cattle,
  • €0,4 for each pig, in
  • €0,2 for each sheep or goat

The payment of the fee for 2024 will be pilot and concerns breeders of productive animals (cattle, goats, sheep and pigs) who have holdings in the following Regions:

  •    Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
  •    Region of Central Macedonia
  •    Region of western Macedonia
  •    Epirus Region
  •    Region of Central Greece
  •    Western Greece
  •    Peloponnese Region
  •    Region of Attica and
  •    Region of Crete

The program does not apply to the insular Regions of the North and South Aegean, the Region of the Ionian Islands, the Region of Thessaly as well as to mainland areas that have been characterized as isolated.

The payment of the fee for the year 2024 starts from April 1 and is completed until June 30, 2024. The fee is collected through the electronic fee process (e-fee) and is an income of each Region to which each livestock holding belongs.

Breeders of cattle, goats, sheep and pigs must take the following actions:

  1. Introduction to the digital service of the HYPAAT "Calculation and booking of e-bill for EPSYD" with the codes of TACHIS (Digital Services of YPAAT (minagric.gr))
  2. Introduction to the e-bill service (e-Paravolo (gsis.gr))
  3. Payment of the fee(s) to any contracted Bank.
  4. Introduction to the digital service of the HYPAAT "Calculation and booking of e-bill for EPSYD" with the codes of TACHIS (Digital Services of YPAAT (minagric.gr))

Press Release: The P.E. Evrytanias participates in the implementation of a pilot program to protect herds from wolf attacks

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, during the meeting of the Regional Committee of the Region of Central Greece and after a proposal by the Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Medicine of the P.E. Evrytania, a request for the supply and receipt of a herd protection system against large predators, costing €8.680, was approved.

These are 200 collars with a built-in pheromone receptor and 400 vials of pheromone. The system, which acts as a repellant to an attacking wolf, will be applied to two flocks of sheep and goats.

This pilot action, which is financed by the Technical Program of the P.E. Evrytania, will be held in collaboration with the Municipality of Agrafon and two volunteer breeders who operate within its boundaries and will last approximately one year.

The Deputy Governor of Mountain & Forestry Policy, Ms. Katerina Kalantzi, after approving the request, stated that she very much hopes for the success of the pilot program, as she believes that it will open a window of relief to the great problem of livestock farmers which is wolf attacks, while she feels the need to thank both the Regional Governor Mr. Fanis Spanos and the Deputy Regional Governor P.E. Mr. Ari Tassios of Evrytania for their substantial contribution to the approval of the request for the supply of the system, as well as the Mayor of Agrafon Mr. Alexis Kardambikis for the good cooperation and trust in the services of P.S.T.E.

Also, the Deputy Governor Mrs. Kalantzi stated that she congratulates the volunteer breeders for their pioneering spirit and that she will be by their side throughout the pilot implementation of the program in the hope that in the end an important step will be reached in dealing with the problem of wolf attacks.
