Biography of Fanis Spanou, Regional Governor of Central Greece
Fanis Spanos was born in 1984 in Chalkida. His parents are Christos Spanos and Lia Vassiliou. With his wife Maria Anastasiou, a teacher, they have had three children, Christos and the twins Stavros and Thanasis.
He studied at the College of Athens and then studied Civil Engineering at the Democritus University of Thrace, specializing in Hydraulic Works. Having already entered the labor market, he obtained two postgraduate degrees, in Business Administration (Professional MBA) from ALBA Graduate Business School and in International and European Studies (MA) from the University of Athens. He has also obtained an Executive Certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School in the field of Public Policy. He speaks English and German. He served his military service on a Navy ship.
He has worked since 2008 in the family business dealing with quarrying and construction projects and the production of ready-mixed concrete and cement products, initially as an engineer and then as the CEO of the company. He considers his experience in the field of business as one of his most valuable resources for the challenges and needs of the Self-Government.
In 2010 he was elected Municipal Councilor of the Municipality of Chalkidea, where he served as Deputy Mayor of Finance, Urban Planning and Traffic Regulations. He also served as President of the municipal company DAEPEX S.A. and President of the Secondary Education School Committee.
In May 2014, he was elected Deputy Regional Governor of P.E. Evia with Kostas Bakoyannis as District Governor. From this position he actively dealt with a wide range of issues in Evia, but also in the whole of Central Greece. During his tenure, he placed particular emphasis on infrastructure projects, economic development through regional and sectoral policies, the environment, spatial planning, social solidarity, Civil Protection, but also the orderly and citizen-friendly operation of services.
In the elections of June 2019, he was elected Regional Governor of Central Greece as head of the combination <<We insist on the Heart of Greece>>. At the same time, he participated in the Board of Directors of the Union of Regions of Greece and was the President of the Spatial Planning, Infrastructure and Transport Committee of EN.P.E.
In the self-governing elections of October 2023, he was re-elected as Regional Governor of Central Greece. In February of the same year, he was elected Secretary General of the Union of Regions of Greece, while at the same time he assumed the position of President of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of EN.PE.
In summary and to the point, Fanis is a young man who loves his place and works hard to make it better.

Konstantinos Bakoyannis
Biography of Costas Bakoyannis, Regional Governor of Central Greece
Kostas Bakoyannis was the Regional Governor of Central Greece from 2014-2019, while from 2011 to 2014 he was the first Mayor of the Kallikratiko Municipality of Karpenisi.
He was born in Athens in 1978. In 1996 he graduated with honors from the Millfield School in the United Kingdom. He is an honors graduate of Brown University (USA), where he studied History and International Relations. Afterwards, he completed his postgraduate studies in the field of Public Administration and Political Sciences, at the John F. Kennedy School of Harvard University (USA), specializing in macroeconomics. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) in the field of Political Science and International Relations.
He has worked successfully in International Organizations, such as the European Parliament and the World Bank. He has also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the private sector, he has worked as a business consultant and executive in a private Investor Relations and Corporate Communication company in Athens.
Clearchos Pergantas
Klearchos Pergantas, was the first elected Regional Governor of Central Greece (from 1.1.2011 – 30/8/2014).
He was born and raised in Livadia. After graduating from the Law School of the University of Athens, he continued with postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne University, where he specialized in Administrative, Constitutional and Parliamentary Law. In 1992, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Administrative Law at the University of Athens.
During his professional career, alongside his legal activities, he was for many years an advisor to the Ministry of the Interior, with main responsibilities for regional development issues and the elaboration of the institutional framework for the establishment of Secondary Self-Government (transition to elected Prefectural Self-Governments).
Also, he has recorded to his credit, a remarkable writing work with books - dissertations, which have been published, and articles and studies, which have been published in scientific journals.
Throughout the years, beyond his professional and scientific activity, he remained an active citizen of Boeotia, with a permanent political and social presence. Aware of the problems of the Prefecture, with a position and an opinion on the development of the place, he was elected in 2002 and 2006 Prefect of Boeotia, and served the Prefectural Self-Government for two consecutive four years (2003 – 2010).
He is also a member of the Union of Regions (ENPE) and a member with voting rights of the Monitoring Committee of the Operational Program "Environment & Sustainable Development" (EPPERAA), as a result of his broad knowledge and experience in matters of Self-Government, as well as in major environmental problems of the country.
