PRESS RELEASE // The Regional Council of Central Greece asserts its clear position on the creation of a HYTBA in the location "Keramideza" of the Municipality of Tanagra

A regular meeting of the Regional Council of Central Greece was held today, Thursday, April 18, 2024, live in the meeting room "Lambrou Papadima" (6-8 Ainianon, Lamia) and at the same time by video conference, while it was broadcast live from channel of the Region of Central Greece on YouTube.

The only item on the agenda was the discussion on the issue of the creation of a hazardous industrial waste management unit (LANDFILL - HYTVA) in the Municipality of Tanagra.

The Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, reiterated the position of the Regional Authority, which remains stable over time and is summarized as follows: "We consider it necessary to create an infrastructure for the management of the waste produced in the region, but with three basic conditions:

  • First, to be placed in a position suggested by the local community and the authorities.
  • Secondly - and most importantly - with a capacity that allows the inflow of only waste produced in Central Greece.
  • Thirdly, to operate with institutionalized social control".

Following an inter-party agreement, the following were invited to the meeting and appointed:

  • The Ministry of the Environment, represented by the Director of Environmental Licensing, Alexandros Koulidis.
  • The Municipality of Tanagra, through Mayor Vassilis Pergalia.
  • The company "ELVIOK M.A.E." through the legal representative of Panos Skiadas.

Also, the head of the majority minority of the Municipality of Tanagra, Nikos Papaioannou, and representatives of associations and organizations, including: OGE Tanagra, Coordinating Committee of Residents and Organizations of Tanagra, Environmental & Livestock Association of Tanagra, Citizen Action Keramideza NON TOXIC, Active Citizens of Delesi , Federation of Associations of Oropos, representative of the Mayor of Oropos.

Subsequently, the heads of the factions, Deputy Governors and Regional Councilors were appointed with the Regional Governor Fanis Spanos to approve and accept the proposal of the Regional Councilor of Boeotia of the "Solid Region" faction, Giorgos Vougesis for the creation of an office of the Regional Environment Service in the Municipality of Tanagra, so that so that executives can operate seamlessly in the area, but also for citizens to have better access.

The meeting ended with the issuance of a resolution, following the proposal of the Regional Governor, which confirms the above clear position of the Regional Authority. All present Regional Councilors of the factions "We insist on the heart of Greece" and "Solid Region" voted in favor.

Upon completion of the meeting, Mr Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos said: "We have chosen, once again, to position ourselves in front of the citizens with honesty and seriousness. Without patting them on the back, without giving them false promises, but by looking them in the eye and recognizing the need for real solutions to real problems.

"With clear speech and in continuation of all the previous acts and decisions of our regional council, we issued a resolution that reflects our permanent positions towards the critical issue of industrial waste management in the Municipality of Tanagra. I thank the Municipality of Tanagra and all the participating agencies for our productive cooperation".

Η President of the Central Greece Regional Council Loukia Theodorou stressed: "Within today's meeting, the opportunity was given to all factions, the representative of the Ministry of Environment Mr. Alexandros Koulidis, the Mayor of Tanagra Mr. Vassilis Pergalia, the representative of ELBIOK Mr. Panos Skiadas, as well as representatives of organizations and associations , to develop their positions. Clarifications were given on issues that concern the local community and the clear and stable position of the Regional Authority was analyzed, which was also formulated in a resolution of the Regional Council, which was approved by the broad majority of the body".
