PRESS RELEASE // MAINLAND GREECE REGION: Maintenance and 24-hour operation monitoring of the Timphristos tunnel

The Region of Central Greece financed, tendered and already contracted the project entitled: "Maintenance and Operation of the Tymfristos Tunnel for the years 2024-2025" and with an initial budget of 451.281,88 euros.

Physical object of the project is:

  • The maintenance and restoration of all damage to the E/M facilities, as well as the gradual replacement of all the tunnel lamps with LEDs.
  • The availability of specialized personnel on a 24-hour basis, to monitor and ensure the smooth operation of the Timphristos tunnel. The operation of these will be monitored daily, weekends and holidays with the 24-hour presence of technical staff at the tunnel's Control Center.

After signing the contract for the implementation of the project, Mr Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos said: "We are ensuring the smooth operation of the Timphristos tunnel, which joins the Regional Units of Fthiotida and Evrytania with a new contract that provides for the restoration of damage, as well as the lamps of the tunnel. It also provides for 24-hour monitoring of the tunnel's proper operation, so that its use is absolutely safe."

Ο Deputy Regional Governor P.E. Fthiotidas Ilias Sanidas stressed: "We are investing in maintenance and road safety projects of Fthiotida and one of them is that of the Tymfristos tunnel. In addition to the rest of the work to be done, the company's contractual obligations include the 24-hour monitoring of the tunnel by the Control Center. So as to ensure the safety of passers-by".
