PRESS RELEASE // REGION OF MAIN GREECE & MUNICIPALITY OF DIRPHIA - MESSAPION: Redevelopment works begin in Steni Evia

The Region of Central Greece tendered and already contracted the project entitled: "REGENERATION OF RECREATION AREAS AND PROMENADES OF THE NARROW SETTLEMENT OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF DIRPHIA-MESSAPIA", which is now entering the implementation stage.

This is a project with an initial budget of 400.000 euros, which is co-financed by 50% by the Region of Central Greece and the Municipality of Dirfyon-Messapion. Following a programming contract, the Region of Central Greece undertook the tender and will oversee its implementation.

The physical object of the project is the upgrading and highlighting of the route from Kato Steni to Ano Steni and to "Vrysis Daveli" square. It provides, among other things:

Ø Removal of the worn pavement from Kato Steni (intersection) to the entrance of Ano Steni. A new sidewalk will be constructed, of sufficient width to serve the walking needs of all walkers, including the disabled.

Ø Stone cladding of walls along the route.

Ø Replacement of all old lamps with uniform LED type lamps.

Ø Landscaping and reconstruction of the "Vrysis Daveli" square, with removal and replacement of the worn slabs, as well as with the creation of new stone seating areas.

Ø Water collection of the waters of the "Doctor's Fountain" and their drainage into the rainwater network.

After the signing of the contract for the construction of the project, the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, said: "The Evia Strait is a unique place and a very attractive tourist destination! We intervene together with the Municipality of Dirfyon-Messapion and co-finance the implementation of a regeneration project, which aims to upgrade and highlight the Upper and Lower Straits. The beautification works will be done with respect for the environment and the special characteristics of the area, while they will highlight the "Vrysis Daveli" square. The project, with an initial budget of 400.000 euros, aspires to further contribute to the tourism development of the region."

The Deputy Governor P.E. Evia's Giorgos Kelaiditis emphasized: "We are once again joining forces with the First Degree of the Self-Government to produce projects that will have a multiplying effect on the local community. The regeneration of the recreational and promenade areas of the beautiful Straits will, we aspire, add a fresh touch to its already unique canvas, on the other hand it will give a further boost to its steadily rising tourism product, a key and catalyst for attracting visitors to its wider complex Sister".

The Mayor of Dirfyon-Messapion Giorgos Psathas stated: "We are funding the project of redevelopment of the Strait with 200.000 euros and we are cooperating with the Region of Central Greece which will cover the remaining 50% of the project, which will beautify our place and contribute to the even greater touristic development of the wider area. We seek to highlight the beauty of the route from Kato Steni to Ano Steni and at the same time to highlight the "Daveli Fountain", but also the "Doctor's Fountain""
